hey! They Might Be Giants also have the smash song "Particle Man" too! ....particle man, particle man, doing the things a particle can, is he a dot or is he a speck, when he's under water does he get wet.....
Favourite one-hit wonders
Watching that advert for the one-hit wonders CD got me thinking about those groups that had a mega hit with a song (usually from a jeans ad!) and then were never heard from again! Who would you nominate as your top three one-hit wonders? I'd go for:
"Inside" - Stiltskin
"Spaceman" - Babylon Zoo
"Safety Dance" - Men Without Hats!

They Might Be Giants have released a stack of albums even if they have had limited pop chart success.
Might as well describe Counting Crows as one hit wonders after Mr Jones.
How about:
'You Get What You Give' by The New Radicals
Or maybe:
'Honey be Good' by the Bible
'Hey Jealousy' - Ginblossoms (almost one hit wonders)

"ANYWAY IT MIGHT NOT BE THAT BAD, YOU WERE THE BEST I'D NEVER HAD, IF I HADNT BLOWN THE WHOLE THING YEARS AGO I MIGHT NOT BE ALONE HEYYY JEALOUSY !!!
One Hit Wonder - Surely any act, regardless of output, who has only one song that is absorbed by the national consciosness is a One Hit Wonder? They Might Be Giants had many releases, but most people (ie. - excluding fans) will only remember them for Birdhouse In My Soul. If they remember them at all.
One Hit Wonder is a term in reference to their role in pop culture. No one sets out to be a One Hit Wonder, and many had extensive record releases before and after, but they are still One Hit Wonders. This doesn't mean the rest of their music is without value or possibly superior to the hit. So Stiltskin and the rest listed above seem quite valid to me.
Anyway, for what it's worth:
Faith No More - Epic
Divinyls - I Touch Myself
Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U
With Natalie Umbruglia and Sugar Hill Gang only just being pipped. I was going to try and lever Ultravox's Vienna in there, then I remembered Dancing With Tears In My Eyes.
Anyway, no votes for Meredith Brooks so far? Now I am surprised!

I admit to having Meredith Brooks' album
My mate Stu wants to nominate three as well (It's Friday night, we're at work, we're bored...)
Edwin Collins - Girl Like You
The La's - There She Goes
Chumbawumba - Tubthumping

Damn, I was going to say Sinead O'Connor!
OK, what about Horse? 'Careful' wasn't quite a hit, peaking at about 16 in the charts, but they had no other hits. I must try to find out if a third album is in the offing, they're about as prolific as Kate Bush at the moment...
Actually, Judi Tzuke's crowning glory, 'Stay With Me 'Til Dawn' had a similar chart placing, and was never to be joined by such pearls as 'For You' or 'Falling In Love'.
And how about Stan Ridgeway? Or 'Rushing Train', by The Balance?
Oh, and that Sam Brown was on 'Loose Ends' the other day. She performed 'Stop!'...

I'm not sure Faith No More could be classed as one hit wonders. Or if they are then surely Easy would be their one hit..?
But anyhoo, one that I've recently been listening to quite a bit is Bran Van 3000 - Drinking in LA

Wow, some of those brought back a lot of memories
I adore "There She Goes" by the LA's My nomination would be for "Drops of Jupiter" by Train, which i'm hoping, with their new CD out in about 6 weeks, won't make them one-hit wonders

I have that on a driving cd somewhere

Yeh, she did Arienne as well
by misskittyfantastic
Tasmin Archer - Sleeping Satelite(did she ever do anything else? Can't think of anything)
