Good one, Avril
This made me smile for some reason...
Australian interviewer:
"What posters do you have on your bedroom wall?"
Avril Lavigne:
"I don't have posters, I have framed platinum records."

OooOOooh! Get her! I like her music but, as a person, she seems annoying as hell.

Avril Lavigne: the new human equivalent of Marmite? Perhaps she should be in the next ad?

I couldn't bring myself to shop in the Sketchers store on Oxford St until they took the giant Britney outta the window, so I'd hate to hafta stop eating Marmite just because Avril was advertising it!
LOL. But it might make me start buying it though

Still, having a 'Marmite deal' is not quite up there with a Pepsi deal is it? Would the Canadians even know what Marmite is?

I'd question your 'bad rock' accusation for starters.

Do the Canadians know what anything other than bad rock & sci-fi porn is??
Have you never listed to any Rush?
Though I hate Avril, I do have to agree with Whistler that there are some good Canadian bands. Hot Hot Heat, anyone?
ANYONE??
ANYONE??
Before I say this, I wish to make a disclaimer. I, under no circumstances, wish to legitimise either of these bland wastes of space and air.

Right, that done, I have to disagree. Mssr Timberlake did appear on TOTP wearing a dolphin outfit and playing bass for the Flaming Lips. This suggests to me someone who doesn't take himself too seriously. He is, however, a talentless media whore.
Ms Levigne, on the other habd seems to take herself very seriously. I even read an interview where she used the lyrics to .. no I cannot write it in the manner printer .. The 'Skater Boy' song, as proof of her talent and got very angry that people would suggest it was written for her. Apparently something that deep and 'real' could only have come from her. She seems to be suffering from Kurt-Envy and has delusions of validity. She's pop in a gap-rock make-over. Get. Over. Yourself.
As for the Canadians in general - Rush is a bad example of good rock and a good example of worthless pomp rock. Up there with the mighty Yes. Sum 41 have amusing moments. Hot Hot Heat come highly recommended, though I haven't heard their stuff yet. As for the rest, well, you'd hardly miss them, would you?
Besides .. what have the Canadians ever done for us?
And, despite what you say Jayjay, I still like her and her music. You seem to be under the misapprehension that I have to deconstruct everything I watch/read/listen to.
I have my 'serious' music tastes, I even had the same views when I was younger (ie. rubbishing the so-called popular 'chart' music')
However, I enjoy her music. Life is too short to take it all seriously
Btw, it's Lavigne and Sk8er Boi
Oh, And Rush? Worthless pomp-rock? *shakeshead* Our tastes really are poles apart...

Not at all sir. Just as you are free to enjoy her ouvre, so I am to spit feathers at it. That is the beauty of subjectivism and the freedom that is liberal democracy.

We all have a point where we draw the line. For dumb, fun good ol' rock 'n' roll fun I turn to the likes of AC/DC and Tenacious D. You turn to Avril Lavigne. That's all good and well, as is a little harmless banter over the difference.
And I am more than aware of how she has chosen to write Skater Boy, I just choose not to repeat it. The sight of it makes my stomach churn. However, Levigne was clearly an error, for which I appologize.
Well, we do agree on AC/DC, at least
