I think its funny that people who don't see the point of singles and only buy albums then go on to moan about the state of the singles chart.
So who will be the Christmas number 1
Well according to the BBC our pick for the number one slot of Christmas will be one of these
Alex Parks
Avid Merrion
Atomic Kitten
Bill Nighy (Billy Mack)
Blue
Sir Cliff Richard
Fast Food Rockers
Gary Jules
Katie Melua
Noddy
Pop Idol 12
Sugababes
The Darkness
Young Punx
But who do you think will hit that Number 1 slot on the 25th

Noddy has a blue hat and a red & yellow car.

*wiggles little finger*
And also in some cases (as is the case for The Darkness' Christmas single) the song isn't on the album.

hmmmm I love Mad World (love Donnie Darko too)
I reckon 'Proper Crimbo' might get Number 1 or The Darkness.

Because, CD singles often contain extra songs that aren't available on albums. And diehards are often completists and want to get everything released. I've bought all Avril's singles for those very reasons.
Finally decided to check out this thread and OHMIGOD! Are those the choices?
There's not actually one of those that I like, which means that all of them have an equal chance of winning
I can't actually remember a christmas No. 1 in the past years that I've actually liked, so who knows.
*takes back her tuppence worth*

i like the gary jules song a lot, but it probly won't be that, and i don't really care about the charts, so i think i'll shut up now
I'm soooo pleased about that, because i thought the hype of The Darkness would win it for them. And it was very close apparently, only about 30,000 sales between them.
For once there's a decent track at number one for Christmas. Though it hasn't escaped my notice that three of the top five are Christmas singles
Congratulations to Gary Jules

Why congratulations to Gary Jules?
When i saw it on TOTP it said it was Michael Andrews featuring Gary Jules, so is Gary Jules not just the singer?

As far as I'm aware all the radio stations have been publicising it as only Gary Jules.

That's kinda irritating that a cover version has made it to no.1
The first time I heard it was on Rossy a few days back and it sounded like some bloke doing a kareoke version
Matthew, having a look around it appears the track was composed by Michael Andrews for the Donnie Darko soundtrack with Gary Jules featuring on it.

As much as I like Mad World, I would have preferred The Darkness being Number One because it is a Christmas song and it's fun.
There's enough depression at this time of year so an upbeat and fun record would have been nice.

Couldn't have put it better myself (I can't get that song outta my head )

The Darkness deserve to burn in musical hell
It's an excellent cheerful song (even if it *is* too high for me to sing along to)
Don't be so miserable
Don't be so miserable
It is something that I can't properly express due to the policy of this site.
And I'm not being miserable. If they died tomorrow the Darkness would make me an extremely happy person

Cool. Rejoicing at someone's (hypothetical) death.
Merry Christmas everyone
