Everyone has differing music tastes, nobody can argue or take that away from anyone
I've read a few articles today commenting on the lack of fun at christmas and the reflection of "moodier" type songs and the lack of christmas even mentioned in song titles.
I don't normally like jolly songs, but the Darkness do make me giggle
Merry Christmas *nabs Spikeo and kisses him*

Does it really make a difference to any part of Christmas whatsoever? No.
If people want a jolly happy song then they'll go buy the Darkness (or whatever ) and play it to their heart's content.
More people bought Gary Jules. IT DOESN'T MATTER. It's not like that's the only record you're allowed to listen to at Christmas.
I NEVER buy singles but I went and bought it today anyway since it's a damn good song. And I'd rather have something good at the top of the charts for a change than the usual pap.

As predicted, no justice in the world.
But this would have been my second choice for the Christmas number 1. It's a damn sight better than the pop-idol stuff. And that John and Yoko cover.... *shudder*

I can't believe a debate about the Xmas number one has kicked up such a fuss....
I'm just glad we ain't back in 1971 when Benny Hill was Number one with Ernie: The fastest Milkman in the West otherwize you people would start killing each other...

Agreed, otherwise life would be very boring if everyone was alike.

Still surprised that Cliff didn't make it top 5 - just out of interest does anyone know where that charted?
Jimi, Ernie was a classic tune
Got to admit this is the first time in many years that I haven't groaned at the amount of christmas tunes playing in the shops. Sad maybe, but they are keeping a smile on my face through the dismal weather
about 14 or 15 i think.

The darkness play glam-pop-rock...They are in musical hell.

The Darkness deserve to burn in musical hell
aren't they?
Dunno why everyone seems to take The Darkness so seriously, because they certainly don't..
Cause for some bizarre reason I'll never understand the British music press won't stop collectively masturbating over them as the saviours of rock, when I've seen pub bands that are better. It really is getting quite tiresome.
Maybe because it's something different to the current production line of "Nu-Metal" clone bands?

Besides, who bothers to listen to what the press have to say
Nah nu-metal's already dead (sorry Ethan )
It *is* something to do with (god knows why) the sudden urge to see a throwback band of sorts to the 70s/80s. Only problem is since they were the first ones to come along nobody bothered to check if they were any good before jumping on the bandwagon

I've heard that people who liked the music on 'Donny Darko', and consequently bought the soundtrack, were a tad disappointed. Key bits of music aren't included. Bit like buying the 'So I Married An Axe Murderer' OST, only to find that it doesn't include the kicking PotUSA's version of 'Video Killed The Radio Star', but the original version by The La's (which I have).

I'd like Gary Jules to be no 1, but as Samphirette said, anyone who is a fan of Mad World, will probably be waiting for the album to be released in Janurary, or have already bought the Donnie Darko sountrack.
It'll probably be the Darkness or Pop Idol. In which case, I really hope it's the Darkness. Or anything except the Fast Food Rockers or Noddy
Like a lot of people, seemingly, I rated 'Mad World' as the best of the bunch, but didn't think it would get the Xmas top spot. Apparently, there's been much pressure to release it as a single, and I believe it's on Alex Parks' album, being given much the same sparse acoustic treatment (no coincidence, I'm sure). They were selling it for a pound off in Asda though, and I seriously considered buying a copy (didn't 'cause I have it on KaZaA), so I can understand the final rush in sales.
Don't think, in balance, that it's a great version. I thought it was interesting first time I heard it, but (and I know some will disagree), I think a song has to really grow on you to be really worth it. This one's charms are a little obvious.
And Rocky nods... coincidence, or something more sinister?

Noddy's releasing a single!! He rocks
<-----misses 'strokes chin' smiley.
I thought it was The Buggles that first realeased 'Video Killed The Radio Star' The only La's song I can think of is 'There She Goes'

Ouch, you're right, Milky!
I'm confusing the end credits of two films, 'SIMAAM' and 'Grosse Point Blank'. PotUSA covered 'VKTRS' in the latter, while the Boo Radleys did a most kicking version of 'There She Goes' for the Mike Myers film (but the La's version was on the soundtrack).
So I only get replies when I'm wrong..?
