Sum 41 now a 3-piece
Dave "Brownsound" Baksh, Sum 41's lead guitarist, has left the band due to that old favourite "musical differences". Apparently he had lost interest in the bands musical direction and wanted to play more classic metal style stuff. Enter his new band Brown Brigade, whose lineup isn't complete yet, but which Dave has said will probably sound comparable to Iron Maiden. They're hoping to play a few shows this summer and have an album out in the autumn.
Deryck Whibley, meanwhile, has said Sum 41 will not replace Dave and will continue as a 3-piece (but with an extra non-band-member guitarist for tours). In a post on the bands official message board he says that Dave hadn't enjoyed his life in the band for a long time. Whilst it was a very clean split, and all parties seem to wish each other well, Deryck is looking forward to releasing supposedly their best album yet now that all the band members are fully into it. They're taking their time on it, spending the whole rest of the year working on it, and expecting it to be released early 2007.
