This story seems to crop up from time to time. Maybe Britney's people have called Joss's people and all the people have had a meeting this time But seriously it must be difficult to try to schedule a huge pop star like Britney into such a tightly scheduled show like Buffy!!!

I guess only time will tell.

I really hope this doesn't happen for quite a few reasons.

a) Britney's acting isn't exactly award winning is it? Surrounded by a cast as strong as that of Buffy she'll stick out like a particularly wooden sore thumb.

b) Having a glam blonde baddie has been done before on Buffy. Glory anyone - ok so Britney is supposed to be a vamp but they did that at the beginning of season 4 with that nasty female vamp on campus.

c) Although the vamps, demons, hellmouth etc aspect of Buffy isn't what you'd call 'realistic' the show has always maintained a degree of believability. Whack a megastar like Britney in the middle of Sunnydale and it will kinda remove that aspect.

imo Joss wouldn't do it now. A few years ago before Britney's face was on every endorsement possible it might have worked, but it would be ridiculous and a let down to Buffy fans.

And besides Britters doesn't need the cash, let some poor jobbing actor get a bit of the limelight instead

If I remember correctly, wasn't Britney (apparently genuinely friends with SMG) supposed to take the part of April - Warren's sex-bot? I think timing constraints meant a re-cast.
Was Spears any good in that movie she was in recently? Is anyone willing to admit they saw it??

Buffy already has a huge problem with credibility. People who have never watched it take the cheesy title and the premise of vampires and assume it’s not a quality TV show, when we who watch it know that is one the best shows on TV. An appearance of Britney would not do much to improve the credibility – obviously it would depend on her performance – as it will probably bring a few more curious viewers – but if she is bad (and I have heard that she is) then those new viewers would not stay.

No, No, NO! What a stupid idea. Yes, for a role where she plays a robot. Fair enough. You don't need to act to do that, but otherwise its going to be rubbish.

I remember this being brought up two years ago on BuffyUK. And, guess what? It never happened.

Can't see it happening now to be honest. And I certainly think it's a BAD idea in any event.

Very cheap attempt to bring in viewers but as it has been said before its been rumoured for ages.

Its definately a hot topic on the Bronze (buffy official posting board thing) and a lot of people seem very certain its going to happen this time.
IMHO I can't think of anything worse!
Its just an attempt to raise interest in the teeny-pop-bopper kids (just like Dawn was... and I mean look what happened there! She's supposed to be like my age but she's more immature than my 11 year old sister!). Not only that but most of the people that watch the show hate Britney and all that she stands for. The show's about mis-fits, not pop princesses.
