I also thought the second ep was better than the first. However I think that Max, as a a character, has no personality, she seems so... empty.

And that's all I know... Ch5 have been running trailers for season 1, but the only time scale so far is 'Coming Soon', and there's no news on the Ch5 website either.

Well she's a cute 18 year old, I'm not too sure too many cute 18 year olds have "personalities" 
OK yes I agree the character does lack a little character, I'm hoping that'll come with the rest of the series. However I also thought Buffy lacked a lot of personality initially and it's the other characters that provide the fun, with the heroine simply looking good and carrying the plot.
