It certainly looks more and more like Joss will spin-off another series than run with a show that's starting to get past it's sell-by date.
Technically, Faith is the current active slayer, there's no reason at all why he (Joss) can't kill Buffy off (possibly both character and series).

I really quite like the idea of a Faith show personally

Ending the series is, IMO, the right thing to do.

S7 is already shaping up to be very good indeed - in fact I'd go so far as to say it's the best opening to a season they've ever done. If they can keep it up, it'd be a great way to end the show.

I agree with Dan on this. Season 7 is so far very, very cool. And it's always better when a series has a definite ending and doesn't just trail off till they can't be bothered to make it any more.

I've only seen a couple of episodes so far of this latest (and last) season, and I have to say I'm glad it's actually as good as it is. I'd lost all interest in the show till recently and if this season's seemingly more interesting plot (so far) can lead to some more spinoffs then that'll be great

And I'm not convinced by Firefly either. Personally I think it's a good job Whedon's rich, if he's not careful I don't think it'll be long till he's unemployed.

Yes, but as some woman from UPN pointed out on some interview I read somewhere, Buffy season six was very hyped up by the network change and so the figures are really not that much to go on at such an early stage in the season.

Joss Whedon's great! But maybe he is putting a little too much on his plate at the moment though.

Angel is apparently getting better ratings than Buffy this season, which is.. unexpected. I think this season's been pretty poor so far, although the fourth ep is a big improvement, and they have some stuff coming up which could be very interesting.

Well I've only seen a couple of episodes of Firefly, and they weren't enough to keep me watching I dare say if I stumble across it I'll watch, but it's not grabbed me.

It's very interesting that Angel's doing a good turn ratings wise, but I did feel that last season's end was very dramatic, even though I loathe the whole Connor thing. I would reckon that the resolution of that arc is what is keeping folks watching.

I think with Angel, like with Buffy, that Whedon had a basic plot outline that he's now finished with and that leaves the whole series hanging having finished the whole show's plot/story arc, but with new episodes still being made. That's as much the networks' faults as it is the producers though. They want to keep milking the cash cow.

With Angel I think the Apocalypse is the arc and since the Lyndsey/ Wolfram + Hart thing has taken a huge back seat, the whole plot has too If Lilah can get things back on course it might shape up but I don't hold out much hope.

A couple of people have said they're not particularly impressed by Angel so far this year. I have to agree. I still like the character a lot, and I think there's still a lot of potential. But the writing hasn't impressed me through the first few episodes. I was pretty bored--and I generally prefer Angel to Buffy.

As for ratings, I'm surprised to read someone post above that the ratings for Angel have been good so far this year. Really surprised. I haven't seen any ratings this year yet. But I just assumed, judging by where the WB has placed Angel on its schedule, that it has been doing pretty badly.

The show has been moved again, this time to Sunday night at 9:00 p.m., which is a horrible timeslot because the show has so much competition there. Right now, Angel is opposite both Alias and the Sopranos, not to mention the Sunday night movies, which always draw big audiences. Who's watching Angel with that competition--except a few die-hards like me? I just figured the WB was burying Angel (they also have done next to zero promotion for it this season so far) because they've basically decided to cancel it after this season. So, if you're right and the ratings are good, it's some kind of miracle.

Hmm, there seem to be a lot of issues here. I think the first is that Buffy makes a heck of a lot of money for studios, networks etc. and they probably wouldn't cancel it while the licensing and so on still made money for them, unless they found a way to spin off another series within the Buffy franchise.

On the other hand, various actors have been making noises about wanting to move on and in some cases it's understandable- it's mostly the actors playing characters who were only ever thought of as supporting character but were popular with the audience so stayed on. In some cases, their best chance of getting a starring role in a movie and helping their career along is to do it now, while they're "X from Buffy the Vampire Slayer".

So- I think some sort of winding down of the current scenario is inevitable, but I can imagine that Joss Whedon will be under pressure to come up with a new Slayer series to keep the money rolling in.

Hmm, doesn't UPN still have the option on Angel if WB cancel it? It would seem to make sense to replace Buffy with it's spin-off..

I wonder which channel would get the possible Faith spin-off?

Now you see I'm really enjoying Angel, personally I think it would be better if they got rid of Cordelia who appears to be even more scatty this season up in her cloud and then no memorygal!

Both Wesley & Fred are shaping up nicely and developing their characters further than they have before. And yeah sure - Lilah is being fiesty this season. The separate character arcs are there, much like when each character in Buffy has underlying storylines

And Stoo - yeah a Faith spin-off would be good. But she's a bit of a loner in my opinion to carry off a series without a backmeup friend arc stuff
