I've seen eps 3 & 4 of the new series of Buffy and a similarity struck me.
Dawn was in research mode and did a pretty good job of it finding out about the skin peeling demon. Then she was totally ignored as Buffy made a plan and went out to slay it - leaving Dawn at "base camp".
Who was it who pointed out to the gang that everyone was blaiming themselves for Willow's awol act - but what about Willow's actions and responsibility for her situation ? Dawn of course!
And who tried to tell Buffy that her(Buffy's) self pity about the pyschic girl's death was misplaced - Dawn again!
So Dawn is now researcher, left behind and dispenser of comfort and wisdom.
If she starts getting knocked out every episode I reckon she will definitely be up for promotion to librarian at least, if not Watcher!!!

StooThere are two major products that come out of Berkeley: LSD and UNIX. We don't believe this to be a coincidence.
Interesting idea
SamphiretteTo you I guess I'm just a clown who picks you up each time you're down
I like the way Dawn has become "researcher" it really reminds me of the way Willow was "computer girl" in the first couple of series.
Dawn has proved that she still doesn't have the strength to really battle the demons, and what harm in getting to know them "can we do a database of bite samples etc ..."
She can then become ala Wesley style - when you know the demons you have a better chance of finding their weaknesses in battle later on
They've more or less left the Dawn-as-researcher thread dangling unfortunatly. What I want to see is a Dawn/Andrew relationship in which she is a biatch and he's a grovelling minion. Yes.
Besides, don't all the attempted rapists in this show get the best looking girls?

Er, I think on the whole Buffy is a pretty moral production.
Good wins in the end and the bad guys get theirs. Not sure this view would be well received by Joss etc.
