Cool episode i thought. It was probably just me, but Spike with a soul, and Nancy as well as being attracted to Xander, with her physical appearance reminded me a tad of Cordelia, though nowhere near as bitchy. And the Spike with a soul thing is just a little too "Angelic" at the moment.. but wow, James Marsters was just awesome in this episode i thought.. the way he mentally disintegrated after spearing worm-guy in the shoulder.. powerful stuff.
Beneath You (7.2)
Another enjoyable episode I thought.
I liked the banter at the start between Buffy, Dawn and & Xander. Kinda harking back to the earliest eps (replace Dawn with Willow) and again setting a lighter tone.
I was interested to see the interaction between the gang and one of Sunnydale's residents who had been a victim. This cannot have been avoided but I can't remember it being done before. (I discount the episode of Buffy's birthday party last season 'cos the guy invited was a bit of an idiot and very much a bit player).
One thing that didn't sit quite right was the openess the Scoobs displayed about Buffy being the Slayer. Their conversation in front of Nancy was very revealing and then they walk brazenly into the Bronze with Buffy carrying a sword, Spike puts his game face on, so does Anya, and there are displays of super strength!!
One aspect of this continually confuses me as well. Every so often Buffy, who is supposed to be mega strong, really whacks Spike and he just stands there. Occasionally he gets a spot of blood on his lip. Surely a haymaker from Buffy would break something and send him flying!!
Talking about flying what about Buffy's "Tarzan" act?
And finally the "burning cross" scene - brilliant.

Has anyone seen Tremors? The film?
Anyway, once I'd stopped laughing at the similarities, an entertaining episode. Not a lot else to say about it really, I enjoyed the Buffy/Spike scenes, and it looks like there will be plenty of oportunity for some sparkling, witty Xander/Anya dialogue in upcoming eps.
Wonder where the next girl being chased through the streets at the start will be?

I thought it was an excellent episode (although I agree entirely with FiveByFive about the "Tremors" similarities!!)
As Keeny says, James Marsters' acting was outstanding and I'm really interested to know just where they'll take the whole soul-thing. Spike's clearly not a good man even with a soul (hitting Anya in the Bronze??!), so where does he go from here.....?

Ah yes, doing violence to demons, a clear indicator of not being good in the Buffyverse. Oh, wait a minute...

Spike doesn't know what he is. Not only is he struggling with having his soul back, but he's clearly also being messed with by some other force. There's certainly no reason why he can't become a good man, although it may take come time. After all, it took Angel roughly a century.
I agree with Dan. Let's not forget what Angel did back in the 50s when he left the residents of the Hyperion to be fed off the resident demon with the immortal line 'Take 'em all'. And his 'I just can't seem to care' parting line to the W & H brigade in the S2 ep of Angel. And they were all human victims.
And, yet, we all know that Angel is fighting the good fight. While Spike is coming to terms with having a soul, and being tormented by whatever is tormenting him, it's going to be some traumatic transitional phase for him.
As for the rest of the ep? Well, everyone has already said it for me. Not one of the strongest eps but certainly an interesting one.

For the first couple of seconds I thought I was watching Alias.

Oh yeah I fully agree with you there Did wonder if perhaps Joss was taking the mickey with Alias coming out all shiny and new and grabbing Emmys! The pink hair, the music, the legging it - all very familar.

Then after that with the giant worm it all kinda went downhill Although it does beg that question at whether Anya is bored trying to be overdramatic making the guy into a huge concrete breaking worm isn't the same as your run of the mill earth worm. PMT perhaps
By reversing the spell, it does make Anya appear weak. Although Spike impailing the guy was very moving to watch as he suddenly lost control again with his struggle to match his emotions. All of this is something we only see Angel really doing in flashbacks after he regained his soul.
Still even with the scene in the church, I can't quite sympathise with Spike. In some respects the character has hung around for a long time in the shadow of Angel. The whole soul thing (even without with *uh um* curse) just seems a rip-off to me
