The only part I remembered about this was the vortex until there was a feature on it when C4 did their top 100 kids shows

Wasn't the plant an Aspidistra called Uncle?
I seem to remember the teams always started off chained to a wall with a bizarre key floating in water affair at the other end of the room ... and they used to have to solve some sort of maze thing on a computer that had roughly 1/100th the power of a ZX81.

I distinctly remember 'the drogna game', and something involving a 'pirhana infested swamp (ie water and dry ice), where they had to get across with 3 planks which were too short, and somthing about floating a key out of a plastic tube by filling it with water...
and oh the vortex... i make the noise to this day
hhhhhjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj... bee boo

I loved this show! ISTR the first series or two tended to be intellectual types solving real puzzles (OU boffins and Tomrrow's World presenters), then it got more celebrity-oriented and a little dumbed down. Some of the puzzles were really lateral...
And thanks for the link!
Gronda, gronda!
So you thought you took too many magic mushrooms when you were all of about 8 years old, fear not it was all true.......
Oh! I can't believe that there's a site about "The Adventure Game" - I really have often thought that I dreampt it all. I have a distinct memory about a test where they had lots of different coloured balloons and the answer was "Richard of York gave battle in vain" - thus teaching me how to remember the order of the colours of the rainbow!
