Saw this advertised today and thought hmmmmm worth a look
Dead Like Me Sky 1 Friday
A chance to catch a cool (well i like it) Series from the Stateson Sky one at 9pm
Its about a teenager who, on her death, becomes a reaper, catching souls as people die and directing them on to the afterlife.
Its very funny & sarcastic although I dont know whether the swearing will get cut.
Oh and its got Mandy Patinkin in it too.

its very good stuff. i hope the swearing is kept, they seem to be showing it late enough for that.
and Mandy Patinkin is fab. of course.

I've only seen the pilot (I'd never head of it until I caught the add on SkyOne), but have to say, sorry to use the dread phrase, it looks extremely promising. The conciet behind the series could have been deeply naff, but it was handled with just the right balance of humour and pathos. All the witty and acerbic dialogue was great.
Looks like Showtime is trying to cash in on the sucess of HBO's Six Feet Under, but it's more than different enough to establish its own ground.
As to cuts, I imagine it'll be shown mostly intact at 9, the language was certainly more restrained than their competitor's shows!

Depends how scissor-happy Murdoch's goons are.

Grrr so soon? Makes that 770mb download a bit of a waste
I watched it and thought it was one of the best new shows I've seen on tv in a while. It's very funny and the main character is instantly likeable (well, I thought she was great). This is now on my 'must watch' list
It was repeated tonight on Sky Mix.
If you missed it, I have it on disck.
by the way... it rocked. best pilot Ive sene in years
Even better news, it got renewed!

Thanks hun , after posting I found it on sky one mix and watched it, it looks very promising and I had forgotten just how good Mandy Patinkin was seems like an age since I saw him on Chicargo Hope
My only complaint was that the main character looked like a miserable sod early on. Also the story had holes in it, probably due to the extreme cuts made. Good though
I actually enjoyed this one so am looking forward to getting to grips with it as the season progresses.
Didn't think that much of the pilot show. Hopefuly the normal episodes will get better.
And for anyone watching on Cable. Sky will probably move it on to Sky One Mix only, if the viewing figures are not good enough. And will more than likely move it over to Mix anyway for the last few episodes.
Eg
Alias
Odeysee 5
American Gothic (3 episodes left)
etc...

I watched and taped the pilot and have now seen the show a total of three times
I'm weary of liking it to much though incase Sky One shuffle it to Sky Mix and then take it off 'air' altogether.
Can I just say I'm getting sick of Sky getting rid of good shows and also not advertising them well. I saw about three adverts for Dead Like Me and that was it, how does Sky expect to get ratings when they don't let people know what good shows they have.
Whilst I'm here - new series of Stargate - Yeah!

Well, thanks to Wo, I've watched the pilot ep again, without the noise and distraction of Pages Bar where I first 'saw' it.
What a great show! Likeable main character, funny and interesting sidekicks. (Is it me or does Mason remind anyone of Doyle?) and some great dialogue. Most of the ep was predictable scene setting (as with any new show) so not a lot of in depth dialogue but the scene at the end with George and Rube discussing Fate and why the little girl had to die did actually bring tears to me eye. Up till that point, Rube was portrayed as an arrogant jerk but what he said to George to make her feel better about what she had to do was touching.
The Gravelings are a nice touch if a little bit of a rip off from The Twilight Zone. But I guess that's partly where DLM is coming from in its quirkiness. Like someone else said, there is a trend for off-the-wall shows at the moment and this is a nice departure from the more traditional approach of Buffy. And I love the more adult-theme to the show with the swearing, etc. Although, I didn't see the Sky version so not sure if, or what, was cut out.
I'm gonna have to watch the ep again so I can satisfy myself that I totally understood what was going on and I've already given my parents instruction to tape the rest of the season for me. Are all the shows gonna run to 90 mins?
Anyway, a big thumbs up from me. I just hope it has a sustained run.

I think the first season is 14 episodes long (funny number but showtime seem to like it jeremiah is the same) and as Wobag has said its already been renewed for a second season.
Weird, 'coz I'm sure this week's Radio Times has tomorrow's ep lasting 90 minutes from 9 till 10.30
