Ok, after having watched 14 episodes, I discovered that there are only 14 episodes in this season!

I need more DLM!

Not to fear though. It's been renewed for a 2nd season.
Lets hope this one is a little longer...

Well at least we still have 6 episode left on SKY.

Why is it such a short season?

That's really odd for such a popular show.
Although, it is 'Showtime' which I don't recall ever watching a series from...

I think the expression is 'Less is more'

But, seriously, I think Showtime just tend to have shorter seasons.

As long as they keep making them, I'll be ok(ish) with them being short seasons.

i think its a cable station thing. i think HBO seasons are pretty short too.

13 Episodes used to be the norm. (in the old days )
That way you could have 4 different series in a year.

Jeremiah's second season (also on showtime) is just as long, but the first season was longer

S.11 The Bicycle Thief

What an absolutely brilliant ep. What a poignant scene with Mason being the go-between for the gay couple and feeling awful about what transpired. That, coupled with Delores's upset at her friend, George, leaving Happy Time and Daisy showing some humanity for the first time, made this one of the best eps of Season One.

So much so, I had tears in my eyes for the first time since the pilot ep.

What about Daisy and the painting though? Is she a changed woman just because that guy had a revalation that he painted the picture for her? I loved the rest of the episode (as usual), but was unsure on that one thread.

S1:12 Nighthawks

When I read about this ep in the TV guide I thought this sounded good and, indeed, a lot of the ep was good - when it focused on Daisy, Roxy and Mason struggling to complete their appraisals. And George upset and angry at the thought of one of her family maybe having an 'appointment' in their driveway in the early hours of the morning.

However, while these bits were good, I felt cheated, and a little disappointed, that, following last week's great ep, we were treated to the oft-used 'excerpt' episode. And not just the odd ep either. Most of the 11 preceeding eps were used which always seems a cheap way of knocking an ep together and there didn't really seem any reason for doing this just yet. We already knew what the characters were like and what they had done at the beginning of the season. It wasn't that long ago and, up till recently, the eps had had 'previously on..' segments reminding us what had already transpired.

It was a strange installment and I don't feel it took us, the viewer, any further. It almost felt like a step back in some ways because it re-opened the hostility between George and Rube regarding her eagnerness to flaut Reaper rules of conduct and trying to effect 'appointments'.

Following 'The Bicycle Thief' from last week, this just didn't compare and has to be, to my mind, one of the weakest in the season.

But, as we have the final two eps of the S1 coming up, I suspect this was just a blip....

S1.13 Vacation

Well, this was a great improvement over last week's ep.

From the bonding between Reggie and Joy at the cabin to Georgia's yearning to be on holiday with her family to the comedic antics of the gravelings to the sadness that is Daisy, this ep had it all. And, again, I had tears in my eyes.

Firstly, I'm glad that Reggie and Joy are now starting to re-build their relationship even though Joy and Clancy's marriage is unravelling further. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but this was the first ep where Reggie actually states to her mother that she misses her sister

I like the little flashbacks of Georgia's childhood and this ep explored her pre-teen relationship with her parents further. And it also showed how much she doted on Reggie before the cynical, sullen teenager ignored her. Another example of how much you realise you miss something when it is taken away from you.

On a lighter note, I just loved the gravelings in this ep. We've seen them being mischevious before when they got their own back on Georgia at her apartment when she changed an 'appointment'. But, seeing them sat at a booth in DWH, chilling out and then throwing stuff at the reapers was priceless! So was Rube's reaction!! *eg*

Daisy leapt a huge amount in my estimations. It suddenly sunk in, to at least her, why Rube wanted the souls 'reaped' collated by the last thoughts. Daisy expected their to be more 'categories', and, the fact that it boiled down to very few shocked her. Even more so that many of them mirrored her own, poignant last thought discovered by Mason. And, it was nice to see Mason act in such a chilvarous manner.

Finally, it was nice to see Crystal again and the whole Happy Time office. I hope that this isn't the last time we see Georgia there as Happy Time was often the setting of some great scenes in Season One.

I think you're right there. After such a great episode review, I feel kinda awful sticking in such a superficial remark but, what the hell... isn't Mason getting more cute every ep? When Daisy was explaining all the reasons why she wouldn't go out with him, I was just thinking "how could she not go for that smile?"
