"The Others" was shown on Channel Five late last year and at the beginning of this year and it didn't even get halfway through the first season before it was pulled.. and it was extremely good and genuinely scary in parts... in my opinion, it should've at least have gotten a full season beneath its belt before the decision was made to pull it

Felt exactly the same way about "Brimstone" too, that series had promise.

Alien Nation is one of my all time favourite sci-fi shows and I treasure my videos

But two of the best I ever saw were never given the chance to reach their full potential ... American Gothic (so many things they could have done with that) and Prey.

Also liked Space: Above and Beyond and Strange Luck. Again, never allowed to flourish sadly.

Well ive never seen Prey but since its being repeated on the Sci-fi Channel from Wednesday no better time to start.

Alien Nation got a sorta second chance though it had 4 TV movies made about 5/6 years after(fan presence helps). Dark Skies while unfairly compared with the X files was good and had quite a bit of promise.

Also Now Again starring the same Lead actor Eric Close had an untimely end at such an excellent point ( this was not cancelled due to ratings but network politics)

Wow Red I though I was the only one to watch Strange Luck it wouild have been intresting to see some more adventures of Chance.

It always would have been nice to see another series of Ultraviolet as well.

I really enjoyed Dark Skies and was a little sad to see it end. I actually thought the historical tie-ins were quite cleverly done, even if the aliens were supposedly always the cause of them.

It was fun seeing Jeri Ryan in something other than DS9.


Space: Above and Beyond was quite interesting too. I missed a number of episodes but I'd b interested in seeing them again.

A lot of US shows get cancelled after an all too brief run, but as in almost all other areas, the studios and networks treat genre programming worst of all.

Part of the problem is that with the handful of truly successful genre shows drawing huge ratings, lots of new series get made, and then swiftly pulled if they don't immediately start drawing ratings on the level of the X-Files or Buffy, forgetting apparently that neither show started off with a huge audience. Also, networks often seem to _want_ the shows to fail, sticking them in rubbishy time slots and waiting for them to fail.

Brimstone, I think the networks weren't sure what to do with it. It had the Devil as a regular character, and I don't know if they were comfortable with that. Strange Luck I suspect suffered from the fact that received wisdom states that a hero must be in charge of his own destiny.

Prey I never liked, because I'm an archaeologist and found its concept fatally flawed: Homo sapiens did not wipe out the Neanderthals, they were just more adaptable and survived better. I kind of liked what I saw of the show, I just found that central conceit spoiled it for me.

I've only seen two episodes of Dark Skies, but it looked much more interesting than later X-Files. Plus, they at least seem to have decided what the alien conspiracy is, unlike the X-Files, which was plainly making it up as it went along. It probably died because by comparison with the similar but slightly more established X-Files, it had lower ratings. Plus X-Files had a higher profile, with Chris Carter's relentless self-promotion. I'd give real money for the X-Files to have ended at Season 4 - back when it was still good - and Strnage Luck, Brimstone and American Gothic to have got more than a season (or half a season in Brimstone's case).

American Gothic. Man that was a great show, but with the hero being the villain, I suppose again the networks just didn't know what to do with it.

Ultraviolet was lucky to even get six episodes given the attitude to genre shows in the UK.

Nowhere Man and Space:Above and Beyond definitely deserved more than one season apiece

Space above and Beyond always seemed a kind Starship Troopers rip off, without the bugs - cool series none the less - with a suprising number of Chris Carter regulars...

But what about Crusade?
That probably passed unnoticed in the UK as it only ever appears to be shown between 1 and 4 am.

I caught most of Crusade on Sky, where it had a decent timeslot. That was a series that really did vanish just as it was hitting its stride, and for bad reasons (J Michael Strawhatsit had a falling out with the network over the breast and violence content - they wanted more, apparently).

I think that was why TNT didn't get Crusade - Sci-Fi channel got it, but halfway through the series they ran out of money........or something.

yeah i liked dark skies too. when it started i thought x files rip-oiff, but it got really good much like american gothic. wasn't too impressed with crusade though not a patch on b5. stranghe luck was good too.

speaking of tv shows that fell first what about those that didn't but still got nowherec i'm thinking early edition. thats was a top show great theme too, then off it went into obscurity!

I am astonished and in many ways apalled that nobody has yet mentioned "Codename: Eternity", arguably the greatest product of this or any other culture.

ahhh i mean i've seen em all eventually, i just remeber itv when they had it on going will be back in 2 weeks then it never returned!!!

American Gothic was great and deserved another series - luckily I taped them all! Dark Skies wasn't bad but the quality of the eps was very variable.

I think Good vs Evil should have been extended. With its streams of shaft in it and the sarcasm it was a good show.

Good vs Evil Yeah that was a kicking show the humour in the show was warped.

I used to love American Gothic!

I'm aware its slightly out of genre in relation to the other shows mentioned in this thread, but i believe My So-Called Life deserves a mention as it was simply a great TV show that got cancelled after just one season. tragic.
