I like Angel and all, not as much as Buffy though, but i can't say i'm all that fussed about it being dropped by WB (and as many have pointed out UPN might take it on). After all it is only a TV show and there will be others, and there are always DVD's if you feel like you need an Angel fix
No Season Six For Angel
I'm sorry to be the one to post this news but this will be the last season of Angel
Here is the official statement from The WB.

Here is the official statement from The WB.
For the last seven years Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer have been cornerstones of our network. The sum total of the work done on those shows has produced some of the proudest moments in our history. Like some of the great series that are leaving the air this year, including Frasier and Friends, the cast, crew, writers and producers of Angel deserve to be able to wrap up the series in a way befitting a classic television series and that is why we went to Joss to let him know that this would be the last year of the series on The WB. We have discussed continuing the Angel legacy with special movie events next year, which is still on the table. In a perfect world, all of these details would be completed before this information went to the press so that we could be definitive about the show's ongoing future. But in any case, we did not want to contemplate this being the last year of Angel without giving the show the option of crafting their own destiny for this character and for this series. David Boreanaz continues to be one of the finest, classiest and friendliest actors we have had the pleasure to work with and we hope that the relationship furthers from here. The same can be said for all the actors and producers on the show.

Very much doubt UPN will take it on, they lost a ton of money when they took Buffy on and didn't get much back in way of ratings. Besides which the channel as a whole is struggling right now and at the moment looks as if it might have to drop its flagship show - not exactly in a position to pick up a new show.
The whole point is that if the series dies they're not going to be able to give it much of a sendoff with only 4 episodes to wrap everything up. With Buffy Joss wanted the show to end and always intended S7 to be the last - this cancellation is unexpected.

please note i just copy/pasted this if anyone wants to attack me for it, dont. i just thought some might like to see this.
Unfortunately, emailing networks or posting in online petitions is a waste of time. As soon as they start getting emails, they set up spam filters to delete the mail and they don't ever see what comes in. Waiting around for somebody to organize something is wasting precious time--organized campaigns are going to be great but here's something you can do NOW.
If you want to actually do something that actually might--MIGHT--help to get another season for Angel...
DO THIS TOMORROW
1. Go and buy some postcards that show scenes from your city. Tourist postcards. Postcards that have the name of your town or city or area of the country on them. You don't need anything fancy, just something that will show immediately where you are located so they know this is coming from all over.
2. Write a short message on the postcard in your own words saying that you want Angel to be renewed and support the show. Keep it positive. Don't be insulting. Don't be abusive.
3. Address the postcard to one of the people on the list of addresses in this message. Levin may ignore the cards coming into the WB, but the media outlets will see there's a story in this and publicize it. The names on the list are in order of importance so start at the top and send as many postcards as you want to (or can afford to send).
4. Go and get at least six friends who probably aren't reading this on the internet but would be willing to send postcards, and get them to do the same thing.
5. DO IT TOMORROW! Speed of response is what counts along with the size of the response. Don't wait for instructions from some group. Just DO IT.
Here are the addresses to mail your cards to:

this new season has picked right up then if that helps any, i think the only crappy episode i seen so far is season 5 ep13 but then maybe i just didnt get it.
by lizzieslayer
I'm actually ok with Angel going as after the past 2 seasons I thought it was crappy.
At least it sounds like although he dosn't want to have to end the show, Joss'll be able to end it more or less the way he wants to -- both Angel and Buffy have in the past suffered from overly rushed or overly drawn out season finales (indeed, series finale in the Buffy case).
After that though he'll be twiddling his thumbs rather a lot -- it wasn't long ago when he was juggling ending Buffy, starting Firefly, keeping Angel going, and planning Ripper & ani-Buffy; has he got anything other than the Firefly movie lined up now?

I knew the show would end eventually, but leaving four episodes to wrap up five years of story, history etc is just disrespectful to the cast, the crew, the writers and to Joss. He's very upset by it all, as posted on the Bronzebeta.com forum. There had just been a party to celebrate the 100th episode, Levin had made an appearance, made the requisite gushy remarks about the show and had assured Joss that the network could handle two vampire shows. TWO days later and they're given the bombshell that actually, no they couldn't. Angel needs one more season to wrap everything up. We always knew that the seventh season of Buffy was the last one, we weren't afforded that respect with Angel.
It figures that the PTB would put spam filters on their emails, they *know* how much of a ****storm this has stirred up, the cowards.
Personally i hold all the suits and decision makers involved with this in the utmost contempt.

That could be interesting. We can hope.
We have discussed continuing the Angel legacy with special movie events next year, which is still on the table.
According to Aint It Cool News (yes, i know it's not normally the most reliable of sources) one of the Angel writers did a talk at a school or uni and said that Whedon had plans to do a joint Buffy/Angel movie, a cinema released movie, when both shows had finished.
Now, this would rock, and if Firefly is successful, i would say is highly likely. Sarah Michelle Gellar isn't exactly having a great time with her career at the moment, and a well budgetted, well produced Buffy film could give her a huge boost, same for Boreanaz, who could get the showcase he needs to make him a popular Hollywood actor.

I'm curious to see what the wrote...can you remember around what numbers the signatures were?

BTW
www.petitiononline.com/ai5d0162/petition.html
At time of posting it has nearly 24000 signatures since late last week including (and these seem to be real) Joss, David B. and James M.
I'm sodding outraged. This is terrible, how can they cancel Angel. It is the only decent show around at the moment, now that buffys gone. I've signed the petition...twice-once for my brother and I'm gonna mail my non buffy/angel liking riends and get them to sign it. This cannot happen. They cant get rid of a show with such bloody great actors and fabulous writers. i could understand if it wasn't doing well but it is.
If it does get cancelled they better had do some movies (TV or feature films). i can't believe this. I'm speechless.

I put my 3 penny worth in as well! The american networks are just sooo short sighted...to name but a few...American Gothic, Earth Final Conflict, Hercules the Legendary Journeys, Zena Warrior Princess, First Wave, and 2 others that seem to escape my memory atm. At least, both series will go down in history as the best cult-TV series ever devised. Just think back when the first Star Trek series started back in the 60's. Who would have thought that the tacky sets etc would turn into a multimillion pound empire and spawn 3 wonderful series as well as make Gene Roddenberry - ---- GOD!
I don't think cancelling crap programmes is short sighted
by Angel1
Earth Final Conflict, Hercules the Legendary Journeys, Zena Warrior Princess
I don't think Buffy and Angel will go down as the best cult tv series ever devised at all, either. Both of them are excellent shows, they have both been consistently good, but for my money, they aren't that good.

The X-Files first five seasons were of such a high quality that it overshadows Buffy and Angel by quite a large margin. The last two or three seasons weren't as good, but many people would argue that from season four onwards Buffy had some naff story directions that really compromised it.
I'd definitely rank Buffy and Angel at the top of the list somewhere, but IMO they definitely aren't the best.

James - 20445
David - 15755
And BTW whoever came up with the original idea to go after TNT is a bit silly - since it is owned by Time-Warner after all...
The best cult TV series ever devised and executed is of course Ultraviolet.
I'll not sign the petition. Realistically it'll not do anything, and thinking about it Angel deserves to go with dignity, not be strung out like a rotted scrap of twine as Buffy was. Going from experience, five seasons is about the optimum length of a show. Nessesity spits out the best innovation, and giving Joss four episodes to wrap his baby should focus his mind on the task in hand. He had an entire season with Buffy, and look how *that* turned out!
So goodbye Angel, you had a damn good run, and here's looking forward to the movies!

I just didn't like it after the whole Connor thing, thought it was pathetic story line. I won't sign the petition, Angel's had its day and I think it had a few good seasons. Like Buffy, I think its time to finish. Joss et al can move on to bigger and better things, if thats possible.
