Thought UV was simply superb when it was on - although missed a couple of episodes the first time round. Now have it on DVD - shame that their isn't more episodes. Maybe Jack Davenport and Channel 4 could make more, especially with all the Buffy fans out there !
Ultra Violet
Anyone remember this one!!??
Britain's answer to Buffy, and seemingly about an "initiative" like group controlled by the government.
They had a lot of fun toys too
I often wish it'd be repeated or come back for a new series

Another thing about UV - the way the group was organised and it operated was much more how I imagined a covert ops group would fight a secret supernatural threat. Their speed, ruthlessness and efficiency shows what a bunch of amateurs the Initiative were!
I think a lot of the initiative's incompetance was due to them needing to be bailed out by the scooby-gang for the sake of the plot of S4. I'm sure that if they'd been the show's heroes then they'd have been portrayed far more like the guys from Ultraviolet i.e. in a much more professional way.

Fair point. It did however strain credibility that this group of supposedly elite troops backed up by enormous resources from the US government should be such a bunch of bumbling incompetents.
Guess, for that added bit of authenticity, the Initiative guys should have had a bunch of friendly staking incidents...
There's the one where Buffy holds one guy in the path of another's taser blast; a scene from which we can see that Initiative soldiers don't conduct, and therefore really must be made of plastic.
Or wood which would explain Marc Blucas's act.... Hushmamouth
Actually I really rather liked Riley after getting rid of the initial shock of him being Angel's "replacement". I think the innocent farm boy do-gooder works well in these types of shows and thought Blucas played Riley very well, and actually very much like Tom Welling's Clark Kent.

I must admit, I was never a member of the rabid anti-Riley pack. I think he suffered for the 'Angel's replacement' label, but I found him likeable enough until he started wailing on Spike to make himself feel better about his life.
Nah, that struck me as a tad intentional (but not as much as it did Prof Walsh, I'll wager).

Does the bit where Adam skewers Professor Walsh count?!?!?
I never particularly disliked him, he just didn't make that much of an impression on me. He was much improved in As You Were though.

How did it jump from Ultraviloet to Riley the plank????
I think it started with comparisons between the UV team and the Initiative as professional covert ops vampire hunter teams with the former coming across as far more competent...
On the other hand, the UV team had their share of failures, and there were a number of ways in which the Initiative were really quite good at their job. They just had a fundamental failure to understand what they were dealing with.

That and it wasn't their show.
And on the subject of annoying love interests, I challenge anyone to say with a straight face that whiny Kirsty was less annoying than earnest Riley. Or was I the only one who wanted Mike to slap her in the face - literally or figuratively - _way_ earlier than he did and start treating Frances a heck of a lot better.
HMV are selling the complete series on DVD for £12.99 at the moment
So now I finally get to see all the episodes in the right order
