Angel 5:16-Shells
I havent posted for a while but I've wanted to, my internets screwed, I loved all Angel episodes except I thought the episode with the submarine was a bit dull, although I did find that prince of lies vamp funny. Smile time was hillarious and A whole in the world was absolutely brilliant.
I liked this episode a lot, I watched it again straight after it finished, It made me cry both times.
Wesley seems to be turning back into his season 4 self, last week he shot an employee in the knee, this week he stabbed gunn and shot know dead-(I don't really blame him for that one).
I liked this episode for many reasons, the return of wesleys stubble to start with!!
It was a very sad episode, especialy at the end were their all on their own looking upset, even that illyria seemed upset (cos she lost her knigdom and all that jazz).
I liked Harmony having a more involved role, comforting gunn and Wes and coming up against illyria-feeling bad that she didn't stop her.
I loved the fighting-angel getting thrown out a window- and the comedy-Spikes take on miniature Jack Daniels bottles. It was interesting to sort of see that Giles doesn't trust Angel anymore, from the phone call-I don't know if anyone else thought that, but that was my impression.
I liked the montage-y bit at the end very very sad, and I like the music playing over it, does anyone know what its called???
I think some of the saddest moments and best moments were when illyria spoke Freds final words and that end clip of Fred leaving for L.A because I'm thinking that Fred is not gonna come back, I think shes dead for good.
I'm very excited about the next episode especially as I'm spoiler free, it makes the episodes more shocking, last season I didn't so I knew what was gonna happen-saying that it was still brilliant.

There's separate threads for "Smile Time" and "A Hole In The World"
I enjoyed this episode a lot, though i was mesmerised by Illyria's blue blue eyes... it was easy for me to think that she was Illyria and not Fred.
Her jerky movements as she tries to get used to human form. Regarding Wesley, trying to understand what he was feeling.
Wesley is very dark, which i'm not surprised at. Watching him in this episode, again i was reminded me of how far he is from the bumbling pompous Wesley Wyndham Pryce of Buffy season three days. Giles would be suprised and i daresay impressed by his character change. I've also noticed that Wes hasn't been wearing his glasses for at least the last season and a half. But his grief was palpable, his anger believable.
But Fred is gone. She isn't coming back, the writers made that plain and simple, by the destroying of Fred's soul when Illyria took over.
I jumped when Wes stabbed Gunn, i didn't see that coming. I'd wondered how he'd react but i didn't expect that at all.
I liked Spike and Angel working together without the baiting and bickering from the blond one. They were united in a cause.
The time shifting was cool, i liked that quite a bit, but i liked it even better when Angel figured out how it happened and joined in for want of a better word. I don't remember where her temple was supposed to be, but it reminded me one heck of a lot of the Hyperion lobby.
The final scene between Illyria and Wesley felt a little off to me. It seems as though Wes has agreed to help Illyria adapt to 21st century life in return for no killing. While interesting, i wonder where this could possibly go (though i read something Amy Acker said in the current issue of Angel magazine about her that would've been a cool sixth season storyline if they'd not been cancelled).
The music was kind of atmospheric. I could find out for you what it is and post it here.

Okay, had a look around and the general concensus to the music at the end of the episode is : "A Place Called Home" by Kim Richey
I haven't liked the past two episodes - they were ok, but the whole killing off Fred undermines Cordelia's death. I mean, nobody had even mentioned Cordelia until this ep and that was only briefly and then Fred goes and dies and everyone not only grieves, but goes mad with it too. Cordy's been around since the beginning and to me was a far more important character - it's not fair to end it this way.
Thanks for finding the name of the song, I shall attempt to buy/download it from somewhere.

I think that everyone didn't grieve as much for cordys death because she was in a coma and it was highly unlikely that she would wake up, they most probably dealt with that then.

Yeah, but then she seemed to wake up. Surely it would be even worse to think that you've got her back and then to lose her again? No one seemed to even care.
"Shells" has a clever (if anti-cimatic) twist away from another apocalypse (okay, just what *is* the plural?), but again another viewing's left me dissapointed. Ultimately superficial episode, and this is the second week running Joss has used Wesley's casual violence for laughs, which totally undermines the careful distinction between humans and demons Buffy made. Compare how Spike's antics were always played for black comedy to the consequences for Faith's actions in "Bad Girls". That caveat aside Knox was an irritating arse, so good riddance.
The Matrix-esque effects were cool though: we need more of Wesley doing a Neo/Desporado!

Illyria only SAYS Fred's soul is destroyed they have no actual proof I mean wouldn't you say something like that if you knew people wanted you out of the body?
I guess you're right, it wasn't really shown by anyone except Angel.....I grieved for her though, I cried my eyes out watching that ep.
