After all the gnashing of teeth about the cancellation of certain shows, and the worsening state of genre television it looks like we may have a contender for a genuine quality new show next season.

Coming seemingly out of nowhere, "Lost" from JJ Abrams the creator of Alias, is getting a lot of people talking.

Lost concerns a 'castaway' style plane crash on a mysterious island. A number of survivors with various backgrounds must try and survive as they come to realise that the island holds some very mysterious and dangerous secrets, not least the creatures lurking in the forest...

Expect to see many familiar faces from Alias to show up. The only question mark is how such a fixed environment, and limited number of characters can sustain a long term show.

Lost apparently has one of the highest budgets ever for a pilot, and whilst its due to air on ABC who hold the silver medal position for cancelling good shows early on, close behind FOX, if this manages to establish itself, we may be in for a wild ride.
