Doctor Who
Hi folks, just been watching the first ep of the new Dr. Who - and I feel somewhat cheated.
Even though this is the same show that immortalised itself through killer dustbins, I never thought I'd see it reimagined as literally as this. Dear God, the whole thing just seemed so... cheesy!
I watched the occaisional bit of the occaisional episode of the old series many years ago and can barely remember it, but they never seemed as (intentionally) corny as this. Maybe except for the Daleks... but does anyone else remember it being, well, better?

So now the next Doctor's David Tennant.
I look forward to that 'mirror' scenario, thank god I've lost them ears, oh and what the hell am I wearing!
He'll definitely last longer than one series

I think it depends how Tennant plays the roll, I personally thought he was rather irritating in Casanova, but his role in Quatermass was completely different (and rather unremarkable).
He is also something of a master of accents and can play it Queens english, his native scottish or anything else probably, and after Ecclestons northern Doc, all bets are off!

i'm really excited! i think he's loooveeely, and aside from the fact i fancy him i genuinely do think he'll make a really fantastic doctor who!! *swoon*
Naff, naff and another naff.
After last week, which was very good, this week was a huge step backwards.
Fart jokes... bad fart jokes.
Dunno what Russell T Davies has written previously, but his Who episodes suck. Back to episodes like last weeks please.

I really liked today's episode. Apart from the juvenile humour I thought it was excellent. (and a cliffhanger at last!)
Well it wasn't nearly as bad as I feared. If you can excuse the bits that made Blazing Saddles look the hight of comedy sophicistication -- and that takes some excusing -- the rest was an entertaining mystery, and the script, barring the stinkers, was very sharp. And thank God, the naff directing and ZX80 techno soundrack didn't return.
The problem seems to be Russel T Davis feels obliged to stick in all these crap kiddie bits to appeal to the younger audience. I'll no doubt be hung drawn and quartered for expecting too much, but I don't recall the old Doctor Who relying on fart jokes.
Stick to the creepy bits and cool aliens Russel!

I must admit I clapped when we were left with the cliff hanger, Dr Who always ended like that (so about time to)

This was a mixed bag for me, probably the least favourite of the four, but but still had a lot going for it, I thought the pig was both funny in a bizzare monty python kind of way and tragic.
Yes I could do without the fart jokes, but im assured by the editor of Dr Who Magazine, that it will at least be backed up by a good reason next week.
Was it ust me or is the idea of a clliffhanger completely killed when you follow it with a 'coming next week' bit?
This two parter was always bottom on my list of expectations from the 13 episodes, so i dont feel THAT disappointed.

Not just you. I was thinking exactly the same. We know the Dr escapes now!!!

Oh, I was browsing the credits last night, and thought it might be interesting to point out that the spot for Concept Artist read "Bryan Hitch" - this might ring a bell among T21's resident comics nerds seeing as Bryan (superstar comics artist) is currently doing brilliant work on The Ultimates, one of Marvel's biggest titles, and his work on Dr. Who included designing the interior of the TARDIS. And I'll bet everyone else who'd give one knew that ages ago - figures.
Well im really looking forward to David Tennent being the Dr. I like him in everything he's been in, im loving Casanova and i cant wait to see him in HP4 either.
As for Russell T Davies, i love his writting, he wrote my fave tv show of all time (QAF) and i think he's done a brillant job of bringing Dr Who into a new genaration.
You people just need slapping.

Casanova rocks, he's not as ugly as Chris Eccleston too, major plus.

Barty Crouch Jnr. A dedicated servant of Voldemort. Which is about all I can say without giving away the plot.

What sort of character is he playing in Harry Potter?

I still haven't read the last one to come out; my pain-in-the-rear sister keeps conveniently deciding to read her copy again when I decide I want to borrow it. Hmph!
Edit: Ooh, looky! Century post!
