I'm liking both of these so far, but more so now in the last couple of episodes of SG-1. I'm glad Sam's back as i wasn't keen on it without her and i'm glad the slutty bitch Vala has gone too as i didn't like her. Wish there was more Jack in it and something would be mentioned of Sam and his relationship other than Sam's "not exactly" single.

Atlantis on the other hand has been good again from the beginning. Liking the introduction of the new character Ronan. As Maff said, there's been no arc introduction as yet, but for all we know, they be getting something in subtly that will all fall into place at a later stage.

Although Stargate SG-1 got off to a rocky start and has been getting better every since Atlantis has been going strong all reason. Last year SG-1 was my favourite and it probably will still be due to the familiarity of the characters but if Atlantis does well this season they might actually get first priority on my "to watch" list

I'm definately preferring SG:A this year.
SG:1 has been a bit up & down (Varla was fun, but not really what I want from the show in the long run), whereas SG:A has been consistantly good (witness the new character Ronon being just the embodiment of cool).

I'm enjoying both pretty much equally, myself. It's taking a while to get used to Ben Browder as Mitchell, mainly because I watched Farscape from start to finish, and his SG-1 persona has definate "John Crichton" overtones, as Crichton was something of a sarcastic, irreverent git at times too. As far as Claudia Black goes though, I think Vala is so far removed from Aeryn Sun it's been far easier for me to make the farscape/sg-1 transition.

I like Atlantis immensely, but I think I'll always prefer SG-1. Then again, "Duet" was truly hilarious, lol, and they've obviously noticed the amount of McKay/Beckett fiction that's floating about on the net *grin*. A friend of mine who runs a Paul McGillion website wasn't terribly happy about this episode, though, lol.

Going back to SG-1, the Ori are marvellous, at the moment seeming so immensely powerful that there appears to be no way of stopping them. Downright creepy, too- I guess the writers figured "time to have a go at religious fundamentalists", and the Ori priors are certainly that- there does seem to be a huge link between the Ori and some Christian fundamentalist groups- "Repent or burn! Only the Ori can save you!" Which is the sort of dogma we were having thrown at us by a new member on the ATcom boards recently- oddly enough, if that hadn't happened on there, I probably wouldn't be making this link in my mind, lol.

It's great to see Carter back, and I'm sorry, but I disagree with the situation regarding Jack- I'd rather they kept it to subtle hints and whatnot, as I watch SG-1 to see action and adventure, not a chick flick. It really wasn't that subtle, either- if you listen to the music that's playing when Sam replies "Not exactly" to Barrats question about whether or not she's single, it's the same music they played when we saw Sam and Jack go fishing... So big clues there! I really do prefer it when they keep the audience guessing regarding relationships between lead characters- the X-Files went well down in my opinion after they got Mulder and Scully together.

Erm, I've rambled on entirely enough, so I'll shut up now, lol.

You either have far too good a memory, or are just way too obsessive, if you noticed that. I don't remember it being a particularly memorable piece of music, but my memory is deeply flawed.

Another aspect i'm very pleased with is the free Jaffa. The way it's developing, under Gerak's leadership they could end up being as big a threat as the Goa'uld were. I kinda hope Gerak doesn't turn out to be a Goa'uld though, it's much more satisfying if he's just a bastard of a Jaffa.

I do feel sorry for poor Teal'c too. The poor git has gone through hell for the last 9 years to earn his entire race freedom, and he's been ousted to the outer fringes already. Can't wait for him to put the hurt on Gerak.

LOL.... Me? Obsessive about Stargate? Well, maybe a little... Actually, I can't take credit for noticing it- A friend of mine on another board used to be a sound editor, and she was the one that noticed it, lol. Even though she's no longer in that business, she still loves analysing the way music is used in film and tv.

I'm looking forward to seeing Gerak's fall from grace too, especially as he seems to be in such an incredibly strong political position at the moment. I wasn't sure whether the new dynamic would work, but I think it really is- So much so that this year there doesn't seem to be any uncertainty about the fact that they're going to go on to season ten. Every other year since about season five, there's always been lots of humming and hawing about whether SG-1 will return, but in the interviews I've read and seen this year, both the actors and the writing team seem very sure that they'll carry on for another year.

This makes me very happy. LOL.

We watched the latest eps over the weekend, and I really enjoyed them, as usual.

'Babylon' was quite slow in pace, there wasn't much action at all, but it was very effective in giving us more insight into Mitchell and these new Free Jaffa, the ancient Sodan, who tried to overthrow the Goa'uld five thousand years ago and have lived in secrecy ever since. With the Ori poisoning their religion, the Sodan could become powerful enemies. Of course, they could become powerful friends if Mitchell's plan works.

Arlantis too wasn't huge on the action either this week. More than SG-1, but not a great amount. Another character transformation episode, which we seem to be getting a lot of this season so far, but it did tie into the last episode and I like the flowing continuity. The Atlantis team have always had an excellent dynamic, and Ronan is readily becoming cemented in it.
