Well I don't know either. Have been following these shows for a while now (US tv) and they will appeal to a specific group of people I'm sure. I personally love the shows but it has to really be your cup of tea (just like the simpsons).
Family Guy and American Dad
Both of these shows start on Beeb Two on Saturday night from 10.05pm.
I don't know which series they are though.

Yesterday evening I was just doing some channel surfing and I hit upon Family Guy (Season 3 Episode 1) on BBC2 and directly after that American Dad (Season 1 Episode 1) (easily recognizable by the very light skin colour of the characters in comparison to season 2)
First of all I was surprised by the late hour it is aired on in the UK. Is is really "so bad" that it needs to be pushed away so no children can see it? If I remember correctly some of the reruns here in the Netherlands aired at 4pm...
Ashame that the UK is a season behind on the US as American dad especially plays into "recent affairs" with little gimmicks which are now atleast 18 months old .
And I was hoping to get some feedback from people in the UK that now seen the show for the first time.... What you think?
For everyone that watches American Dad keep your eye on the newspaper in the intro as it's like the blackboard in the Simpsons

I thought American Dad was okay actually; enough funny bits to keep me interested for another week at least
I didn't see Family Guy, but I'm guessing it was the one where Brian becomes a sniffer dog?

Followed American Dad on US tv and I thought the whole of season 1 was really good..... But it certainly improves throughout the season.
And yes it was the sniffer dog ep

Some might say I'm a bad mum because of this but I let my kids watch it. Yes it's rude but they don't *quite* get the jokes. They laugh so hard that several times they've fallen off their chairs. I don't see any point in hiding things from them.

These two shows have something in common with Ogres as they are all just like onions. Not in the sense that they stink, or that they make you cry or that they get all brown and start sprouting little white hairs when you leave em out in the sun, but in the sense that they have layers

Personally I think that many kids won't pick up on most of the more "adult" elements of the show and just enjoy the show for completely different reasons. So each age bracket enjoys a different layer as from a kids perspective a lot of the things that we as adults see happening don't happen in this show as they just miss it completely.
I adore Family Guy, Simpsons wishes it was half this good now, I certainly havent laughed out loud at any other cartoon in years.
Anyone see the Ah-Ha riff in a recent episode? Now THATs quality.
American Dad I havent really got into, its a bit derivative of Family guy but without the visual gags. Its still decent TV, but not in the same league!
