It was quite interesting to watch. Rather one sided, but interesting all the same. Not sure it really helps an awful lot though. It's preaching to the converted really. There were so many who have protested against the war, and so many who have protested against the US's violation of human rights. None of it seems to be getting us anywhere. I'm beginning to become a bit of a pessimist about such things. We live in a world where the US is Empire and they make the rules. What everyone else things is their own tough luck.
The Road to Guantanamo
Drama tonight on Channel 4 telling the story of the "Tipton Three", young British citizens picked up in Afghanistan and banged up in Guantanamo Bay prison for two years without charge or trial.
No doubt it'll outline a lot of things that are already common knowledge -- Guantanamo bay is an affront to basic standards of civilisation, lots of innocent people were thrown in there, the illiterate baboons they employ as guards like torturing people -- but I'll be interested to see how they present it all. Not going to be easy viewing, but could well be important.

Well all that's true certainly, but the alternative is just to give up, and despite the current gloomy picture, tight, sustained attacks on inhumane policies do get somewhere. Constant media campaigning against injustice can swing the popular mood. It's hardly setting the chained masses free, but the McCaine torture ban recently passed by a less-than-willing Bush illustrates this. It's less than ideal, but it's a start.
You're right Byron, and generally speaking I'm all for action. Despite the fact that world protests did not stop the war on Iraq, I think that THAT many people voicing their opinions has had an effect and will continue to shape things. It's just easy to forget that in the face of so much crap going on in the world I suppose.
