I'm a recent convert to Stargate. About 6 months ago I started from teh beginning and have just watched Abyss from season 6. I love the show and can't wait to see whats coming up. Hope the 200th episode is as funny as Wormhole X-Treme was
Stargate SG-1 reaches its 2nd century
Stargate SG-1 begins it's 10th season this summer, during which it will play it's 200th episode. It's a pretty big milestone, making it the longest running science fiction show ever on american tv. Even the X-Files only reached 9 seasons and Trek never went beyond 7.
Of course, opinions vary on Stargate. Personally, I've enjoyed every season. There is a wide variety of quality in the episodes, and a wide variety of tones, but the team of characters (and actors) was and is excellent, providing wit, drama, tragedy and most of all action. SG-1 always has some cracking action with very nice special effects.
It's spawn, Stargate Atlantis is also doing pretty well, getting a 3rd season, but I can't see a Star Trek style family of shows forming around Stargate. It could lend itself to it with good writing, but I dunno, it just doesn't seem to fit.
Long live SG-1 though. The 9th season was very good (although not everybody thought so), and if the 10th is, it could very possibly get an 11th season.

Love the series and hope they continue for a little while still. One of the last sci-fi "oldies" that is still standing. Everything else has come to an end some way or another. Really curious what they are going to do with episode 200. Only thing I don't like about the series is the obvious cliffhangers but besides that I think it's a terrific series Can't wait till season 10 kicks off.
I've been a big fan of the show for the last four years, and I reckon it just keeps going from strength to strength.
The introduction of new characters last year displeased some of the fans, but the majority seem to be accepting of the new order. I was made up when it was announced that they were going to do a season 10- not bad for a show that was supposed to finish with season 7- that season finale was actually written to be used as a movie script.
Here's hoping they keep jumping through the gate for a while yet!

Got mixed feelings. I'm one of those who feels the last couple of seasons have been seriously below SG-1's best, especially season 9 - the pacing of the Ori storyline seemed tediously slow and I didn't find the Ori terribly interesting anyway (again with the group of ultra-powerful aliens masquerading as gods?!?), likewise the Jaffa politics. Also can't help feeling that the way he's currently written and potrayed, Cameron Mitchell is essentially John Crichton in USAF kit...
Atlantis has yet to inspire me but it's been consistently watchable at least.
Both are things I watched when I had a quiet moment (SG-1 was once a much higher priority) compared with Galactica which I will watch as soon as I got my hands on a fresh episode. Hell, when season 1 was first on Sky on a Monday night, I'd watch it as soon as I got in from fencing, never mind that it'd be around midnight by then!
