Personally, i thought it was standard Ricky Gervais trash.

The normal Simpsons bits were much funnier than Gervais' 'comedy', a nolvelty that all but ruined the ep for me.

I didn't particularly like the episode that much either. Normal Simpsons is soooo much better

I've never liked Ricky Gervais that much anyway. Didn't like The office (or didn't get it) and I've steered clear of Extras for that reason.

Gotta got with Billy on this; Gervais's lines were good, the rest, bar a handful of chucklesome moments, pretty mediocre, though not half as cringe-making as the Radio Times (oh ye of the Gervais exclusive) convincing themselves it was the best Simpsons episode ever.

ive read mixed reviews of this in various papers - but as i cant stand mr gervais (notice how polite im being about the talentless twonk!!), im expecting to not like this ep.
but then, as i dont have sky, and i cant be bothered downloading simpsons eps, i dont think ill be seeing this any time soon.

I don't have Sky so didn't see it either. I have Freeview though and I was getting annoyed with all the adverts on Sky Three reminding me to watch it (if I could I would!) lol!

I love Ricky Gervais. I think The Office is one of the most perfect sit-coms ever created. So I'm looking forward to seeing it. Not sure when that'll be though...

As SkyOne amusingly pointed out in an apology in the break, C4 gets episodes "only" four years after they do.

I'd sort out that Sky package or use other means ... although I'd have no idea what they might be.

I have to admit I struggle with the Simpsons these days. I just don't get a lot of the humour any more. It used to be as sharp of anything, but it went very hit and miss about 7 years ago and from what I've seen of episodes from the past 3 or 4 seasons it's now very much more miss than hit. Maybe I'm just getting more cynical in my old age

Well it has been a while since I've seen this particular Ep and I didn't know at the time it was done by "him". Definately didn't think it was one of the better simpsons eps. Just to hook into DJ's comment about Simpsons being hit and miss lately..... Last weekends USA airing of the Simpsons definately was a hit! So look out for 17x18

Course you are but you're also right.

Just compare those old epps C4 bung out to most new ones. The oldies draw comedy from family interraction we relate to more than we'd like to admit, mixed with clever slapstick, surreal humour and saterising mainstream America in an accesible way. Despite being full of yellow people it was never really a "cartoon", more an animated sitcom.

Now they often rely on "wacky" adventures, creaky wordplay and desperately obscure references that ain't funny even if you do get them, & Homer's become a caricature of himself. (Considering he *began* as a caricature, this is baaaad.)

Venting, venting ... (They cancelled Futurama over *this*?! )

Still some classic epps sneak through mind, like the one where Barney chucks the booze for helicopter lessons, just prefer to let other people report the weat from the chaff instead of watching it avidly like I used to.

Shows like Family Guy, American Dad and King of the Hill are the new Simpsons for me.
