Broody is boring.

I like the quirky, daft Angel we are seeing more of lately. He still manages to throw a bit of menace in there from time to time, and pouting, (*swoon*) but fun is the way to go

Hmm, shouldn't this be in the Sky forum? Kinda hard to answer in any detail without reference to Season 3. I shall give it a go, though...

First, 'Buffy' characters consistent? In Season 6?!?

Anyway, yes Angels character is somewhat lighter than previously. This goes back to Angels epiphany in the S2 episode of the same name. He realised that there was no redemption, no big fight, no possibility of ever defeating the evil in this world and that just helping people however you can is what's important. It was a big weight off his shoulders, and as a result he became less broody. Seems like natural character development to me...

As to whether it works? Mostly. There's an occasional tendency to go too far with it - DB apparently enjoys playing 'whacky' Angel, but personally I find it cringesome (plus I think he's actually a lot better at the darker stuff). I'm happy that the show is willing to try different things and see if they'll work, even when they occasionally don't.

I beg to differ slightly... I find David plays comedy very well (I love his telephone conversation in "Carpe Noctem", it really cracks me up) but he also plays menace very well too... and yeah, the season began in a lighter vein, despite dealing with the death of Buffy at the very start.. but since Darla reappeared on the scene and then very quickly left again, it's darkening again.. to what extreme we'll have to wait and see, but i like the brooding.. dorky Angel in small doses is okay, but every single week????.. no thanks

I'd have to agree, I quite like the balance. Mostly broody because then when he *is* funny, its much more effective because of the contrast.

I prefer Angel when he's dark and I love it when he's Angelus. All this baby nonsense at the moment is driving me crazy.
