My thoughts...?

Gutted.

I think I'm even more upset about this than I was when I heard about Christopher Eccleston leaving. She's gonna be a tough act to follow, the next assistant is gonna have to be something pretty special.

Im comfortable with her leaving, from a fan point of view. I think shes had a good run, and hasnt been as integral to s2 as s1. I'll also be glad to see another companion which will help get rid of the idea that it was as much her show as the Doctors. While a more developed companion has been welcome, its called Doctor Who people!

Equally Im concerned that the next companion wont be successful from a public point of view which may jeopardise the show long term. However we are pretty much guaranteed another 2 series (touch wood touch wood touch wood).

there were rumours a while back that captain jack could be making an appearance in S3, so that could be an option.
but then, i think they might do an episode or 2 where hes alone, then bring in someone new - preferably young, female, and good looking (we only got 2 out of 3 with billie piper, im afraid...)

I doubt you'll get all three, cause it's still, as Wobag says, called "Doctor Who" and not "The Sidekick". Unless she is be a dumb sheep, but then the Doctor would never pick her in the first place...

It wasnt a rumour, it was announced. However it wouldnt be more than a guest appearance because of the overlap with the filming of Torchwood. We can be sure that either the new companion will be introduced during the final episodes of S2 or be the subject of the Christmas special.

Surprisingly, I find myself saying "good move". Billie was good in the first season, but she's just drifted in the second. That "chav" line from way back in "New Eather" summs up her character development.
