I was just writing down some thoughts on this. Basically, Buffy made my best friends, introduced me to my husband and changed my life. Sad huh?

Can't believe it's been 10 years though. Wow.

I started watching Buffy when it started on BBC2. I was a wee nipper, at secondary school, age 12!

Was and remains one of my favourite TV shows, with some favourite eps including Passion, Becoming Part 2, Graduation Day and many, many more. Of course, Buffy got me involved in BuffyUK and subsequently Tangent21, making loads of friends, getting up to antics i'm sure i never would have otherwise. It's been a hoot really!

Happy 10th, Buffy.

Initially, I thought Buffy was just plain old cheese. But at that point my hormones were kicking in and I discovered the wonder that was Sarah Michelle Gellar and Charisma Carpenter. Naturally I was gonna watch it now! lol

I cried when she died, rejoiced when she saved the world, punched the air when she was kicking some random bad guys ass. You get the idea.

Ultimately though, it got me where I am today. Living at the other end of the country from when I started watching, a successful job and most importantly, a group of friends that I know I now can't live without.

It's weird how a TV show would have such an impact on someones life huh?

First two Buffy episodes I watched were on BBC2, "Hallowe'en" and "Lie To Me". Spoilt my expectations a bit, but knew right away it was a great series. Still reckon it's the best comedy-drama made. (Both in equal measure, no mean feat.) Strange to think I was 16 when I first watched (23 now) so in a weird way grew up step-in-step with the characters. Vampire activity thankfully lower.

Warmed to the interactions within the Buffy-Willow-Xander trio, later to Giles, and all the fantasy lore Joss Whedon cooked up. Definitely warmed to Willow and Tara.

Abiding memory is watching new episodes in Pages Bar. Sadly they were season five, so it was already on the way down. Prefer to forget the awful last two seasons and concentrate on all those fun early episodes. Might have to give those DVDs a celebatory spin.

woah - thought i was a smidgen younger than that when it started.
i was always amused by the film, and watched the first few eps on BBC2 just to see what it was all about.
watching this was better than doing nowt when i got home from work, it was mindless escapism which was what i needed to wind down after a stressful day dealing with some of the eedjits who came in shopping.
then i noticed that alyson hannigan was insanely cute (SMG never did anything for me), which almost gave me an actual reason to watch the show.
then i realised that it had gone right down the crapper, and not even she was enough to keep me interested, so i gave up early on in S5, i believe it was.
angel was a lot grittier and darker, but also upped the cheese to almost unbearable levels, so i quit watching that at the same time.
and yet, to say that this was never a show that caught my imagination to any degree, im here (and in several other places) because i met some people through something that was connected to buffy, no matter how indirectly.even more indirectly, this has lead to my outside jobs, and to me going on tour with several bands.
funny, huh??

I got into Buffy a bit later (2000 I think) and it was because of Four Star Mary. My boyfriend was releasing their single over here and got me to start spamming the 'nerd boards' to raise an interest. I came to the BuffyUK board and basically never left. I went on the first tour with FSM and met a few of the 'nerds' and that was it.

If it wasn't for Buffy I'd never have gone to L.A. with FSM thus starting a total love affair with the city that has taken me back several times (and again in 7 weeks YAY!). I'd never have met my best friend Yvonne (even 'tho we hated each other to start with, lol) and lots of my other really good friends too.

I was never a huge Buffy fan, I used to watch but could live with missing episodes. I've never been to a convention apart from the on in L.A. but again that was only because of FSM. Conventions always are and always will be far too nerdy for me

So yeah I guess Buffy did make things good for me but in a more indirect way.

I started watching it when it started on BBC 2, I think I was in 6th form at the time, or possibly just started uni... I had read about the show in Fangoria when it first started in America, so I had been looking forward to seeing it. I really enjoyed what I saw, but I kept on missing episodes (I seem to remember it being in a really crap slot in the schedules). After missing one too many I stopped even trying to watch, even though I liked what I had seen. So a few episodes of series 1 is all I'd seen of it for ages.

Until I came down to London for my year out of Uni. I met CJL (only back then he was just called Chris ) and got talking to him about Buffy. He lent me his series 3 videos, which I watched and loved and I was hooked from then on. I watched it on TV every week and I started buying the DVDs as they came out. Chris had also heard about this Buffy night that was happening in a pub near Westminster, so we went along (Four Star Mary were playing, though at the time I didn't really know who they were).

When I was back at Uni I got an e-mail from Chris to say he was coming up to Manchester. Part of the reason for his visit was that he'd joined an online BUffy community called BuffyUK and they were having a meet up there. So as I was gonna be meeting all these strange people I thought I should probably sign up to introduce myself. I did, I met lots of very cool people (both at the meet and online), and at the risk of sounding overly dramatic, my life has never been the same since!

Buffy itself was and still is an amazing show. The best of it's genre without a doubt, and one of the best TV programmes of all-time. I was out at a party last night and found myself in a conversation about Buffy, and this is a good few years after the series ended! In some ways it seems like only yesterday that it was on, in other ways it seems like a lifetime ago. But I'm very glad that it was a part of my life.

Gonna take out my DVD's and watch some Buffy and Angel again.

I went to the cinema to see Titanic but, even several weeks after release, it was booked up. We decided to see something else so that the journey wasn't wasted and the only thing that looked of interest was I Know What You Did Last Summer. Had Sarah Michelle Gellar not looked so hot in that I probably wouldn't have started watching Buffy

I was never massively into the show, but it was entertaining (for the first three seasons, at least). By far the biggest effect that it had was to introduce me to some fantastic people, some of whom are now amongst my closest friends I wouldn't have met any of them had Titanic not been so damned overrated, lol.

As the sad git that everyone knows i am i was a massive fan of Buffy the film, i used to make my dad rent it from Blockbusters every friday night.

I got my first computer (well, first since the old texas and the old bbc i had hehe) in 96 and i was a big fan of newgroups. I remember there being a cross post on the babylon 5 group about a buffy group that was starting so i joined.

Thats how i met the oldies from here, there was alot of politics in those days which i wont go into

I cant believe i was 11/12 when i first started talking to some of you guys, its insane.

I used to go to Nos nights with my other lot of buffy friends and when we all sort of mixed together

And just like o of the other have said, if it wasnt for Buffy i woudlnt now have my best friends and my large group of close friends. nd i woudlnt have atleast one weekend away every year at the best party ive ever been to

I salute you sir Buffy and the great work you have done.

....and im bloody glad they decided not to go with tapanga from Boy Meets World playing Buffy, she'd have ben crap...and i dont even light SMG lol.

i started watching right from the begining. i cant beleive its been ten years already. i never realy worked it out before but that means i started watching when i was only nine years old. then again ive always liked horror and the supernatural. i guess that means angel started seven years ago. cant wait for decology. i think the first ep i saw was actually "welcome to the hellmouth". i saw "the harvest" then missed a few eps. it was only when they started repeating them the first time that i managed to see the first season all the way through. i cant decide which my fave season was, either 4 or 5. then again six had some comical moments, but one of my fave eps is "bewitched, bothered and bewildered". all in all a kick a** show, happy birthday Buff

When I was at Uni and this episode aired my boyfriend referred to it as "I Dream of Zander" and I still keep forgetting it's proper title. My fave moment is when Oz finds naked Buffy after she changes back from a rat. Awwww Oz was great.

I starting watching it when it was on SKY One back in '99 and fell in lust with David Boreanaz. Still love him to this day (though not as much) on Bones. First ep i saw was 'Innocence'.

Spookily enough, I think those were the two episodes I caught, and I liked them both. I wasn't a regular viewer, then. If the telly happened to be on Sky One, and I was doing some chore in the general area, I would stop to watch. If the chore was considered urgent by my wife, this would cause friction, and she actually accused me of only watching for the eye candy :eek: This was probably because she had the same opinion of the original film as I did. 'Buffy' (and 'Stargate SG-1', yay ten years and ten seasons... but this isn't the thread for that) changed both our views about series' based on films, especially where the parts were totally recast. Joss Whedon engaged my imagination (always a risky venture), which brought me to BuffyUK, with it's ['Myth And Morality?] board.

'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' may have kicked off the whole (super) strong, independent female character genre, mixed in with all the turmoil of living through the teenage years and topped with a generous dollop of horror. Soupy twist!

They showed the first two episodes as one, in Norway, one saturday afternoon pretty much right after it premiered in the US.
I'd seen the movie & since this was a 2 hour block I assumed they'd just forgotten to mark it as a movie in the progs....
Spent the first 10 minutes getting all riled up over how wrong everything was....everything was just that little bit....off.....y'know?
Like Buffy was a midget - albeit with huge boobs...
After that I was just too busy with the story to pay attention to everything that was wrong
I was just blown away & left wanting more
The TV channel made like they'd never shown it - clearly they'd made some kinda mistake as it was shown around 3 in the afternoon & it was only just starting in the US.
Dunno how long it was before they proceeded with the rest of the series, but it felt like forever...
Seasons 1 & 2 were shown in one continous run.
The year waiting for season 3 was without exageration the longest of my life...I'd heard stories about trekkies suffering withdrawl like symptoms & laughed....
BtVS withdrawl was....horrible....but some good did come of it; wasting my workday surfing the net for any trace/hint of BtVS' fate I came across BuffyUK.org....and discovered internet shopping at Blackstar....

Hi everyone, see, I do very occasionally still pop on here!

I can remember seeing the adverts for Buffy on BBC2 and thinking it looked like absolute trash! Really wasn't my sort of thing whatsoever.

However, as seems to be a quite general concensus on here amongst the guys, hormones took over and when we got sky, season 2 was a few episodes in and I started watching it because SMG (god it's a long time since i've referred to her as that!) is undoubtedly a very attractive woman!

Then, these humble, hormone-fuelled beginnings created an addiction because I had found a program with incredible depth given that it was a teen comedy-drama with a ridiculus premise and an even more ridiculous name!

First three series were the best for me, because they were all about high school and I was of that age at the time. When I first started watching I didn't like high school at all at the time, and I got to watch a programme about people whose lives seemed consistent with my own. Whilst they weren't loners, their small group was a misfit group, yet they did a lot of cool stuff!

So yeah, Buffy ran until I was probably about 17 I would guess, and that basically translates to when I started enjoying school, and somehow sixth form made my group of friends rather popular (or perhaps more less unpopular).

Incidentally, when I broke up with my girlfriend last year I went to my happy place, and watched all of season 3, so it appears it can still be my escape!

I can't believe its been that long already! I remember turning on the TV, seeing an advert for it and thinking 'I must watch that'. This of course resulted in ritual watchings each week, much to the annoyance of family members.

It had its good and bad moments, but overall i think it was and still is a fantastic show.

Ah, ol' Geek Central, what fond memories I have of thee.

My threads included "Constant Game-Face Disorder" (the tendency of background goon-vampires to retain vamp-form so, erm, we knew they were vamps: or as Mr Whedon put it on a DVD comentary, "We tried it without the makeup and it looked like a cocktail party!" ) and something on vampire healing powers. (I think I'd been watching Highlander too much.)

Odd correlation between Highlander fans and Buffy fans: can't think of a link ... beside the sword fighting, the immortals, the warrior women, and a general focus on pointy objects ...
