Although as T21 we do not condone piracy.... I don't think making an observation on how most people pirate stuff goes against that principal very much.
The majority of people will get pirated material in one of two ways:
- P2P networks
- Newsgroups
Most people will be familiar with p2p from the time of napster and kazaa nowadays most people will find what they looking for using torrents and a bittorrent client. I'm sure some of you will have heard sites like "pirate bay" in the news which distribute these torrents files. But there are also other sites like mininova.org or bt-chat.com that do basically the same. These sites keep lists of available torrent files and the number of people that are sharing the underlying material.
Before p2p networks were invented (and became popular) people used to also distribute files. The Newsgroups are a special part of the internet that pre-dates the World Wide Web. For everything you ever wanted to know about newsgroups check here. There is a lot of information there on how newsgroups work. Do keep in mind that the newsgroups are generally seen as less user-friendly (more involved) and will probably cost you a few quid to get a decent service.
There are a couple more ways to get your hands on "pirated" material but these are the most common ones. Whatever way you might choose do keep in mind that although downloading pirating material isn't technically stealing it is still breaking the law.
