You even enjoy buffy any more? (Sky One only)

I never thought the day would come, but i have come to the conclusion that Buffy the Vampire slayer is one of the worst programmes on TV at the moment, and i have even found myself skipping it occasionally and just watching Alias and Scrubs on a thursday night instead. I think Buffy really has lost the plot (sky one showing loads of old episodes yesterday shows just how good it *used* to be, and how good it is not now) and i believe that they should have just kept her dead.

Angel actually has a plot arc, whereas Buffy just has... ummm... well.. what does it have??? i know it has buffy and spike having numerous (bear in mind that i have just read the member's guide a second ago) Rounds of Golf

each episode, but other than that, is there anything?? is it even funny anymore? is it action-packed anymore? in my opinion the answers to these questions are "no".

Xander hasn't been funny for years now, but instead of him we had spike, but now spike has become buffy's lover, we don't even have comedy there anymore. We have pretty much lost tara as a character, Dawn's hardly ever in it anymore, Giles has left. It just centres on Buffy killing something, then realising how little she likes life, then going for a round of Golf with spike.

I hate it, i hate it, i hate it, i hate it. doesn't mean i won't watch it anymore, but still.... why isn't it good anymore?

I couldn't agree more. Buffy is certainly going through a 'Beer Bad ' phase

while Angel just gets better and better!

Maybe it's something to do with the 2 networks or Joss is trying to ween people off Buffy and into Angel. I just hope that Buffy gets back on track soon!!!

You are all silly. Whilst S4 was one of the weakest seasons, it was still enjoyable and in particular the second half was great. Also the funniest season as well and best balanced between serious and humour. From Hush onwards there was not a bad episode. Season 6 has been even better than anything at the moment and has had barely a bad episode, with only Wrecked being the biggest pile of
**** so far. Since then we have had Gone, a bit of a slow episode but still enjoyable, and funny. Doublemeat Palace was extremely funny but the monster was a bit stupid. Dead Things was also funny and also advanced the characters a great deal. Older and Far Away was a bit illogical in places but still enjoyable there. Then As you were was A really good episode.

One thing that has really got on my nerves is the stupid clothes that they insist on dressing the characters in. Also the whole buffy Spike thing annoyed me but it does make sense now.

And If you go back and watch restless it explains everything so well both here and season 5 so it all makes sense.

And to that question, yes I still enjoy it, but then I have all the episodes on tape so I must enjoy it to a certain degree otherwise why would I bother?

Anyway I haven't read all the posts... mainly because yeeee blaspheem against all that is good and holy!! Buffy has been great this season, although people are looking to the past for the good old days of Buffy and Angel... This season is about moving on, growing up, coping with the difficulties of life (When You Shouldn't Be Living), Coping with change, not only within a lifestyle but within your being. Addiction, Death, Life, all hard hitting topics...

Sure Buffy has sacrificed some humour along the way this season to approach some more adult topics but I feel it was necessary, but now we're getting that willow/buffy interaction going. The idea that buffy is losing its spark is an awful awful thought... there is a plan for everything, as we saw with the Lil Sis and Miss Muffet references in Seasons 3 and 4 dream sequences.

Have faith... the big bad is coming and Tara... well Tara... we need more Tara...

It's veering towards shark-jumpage.
The dialogue is getting worse ("magic weed?" "gay love?"

, the plots have holes in ("As You Were" featuring Spike, the international arms dealer who doesn't know how to um, deal arms), the acting (especially by Gellar, Hannigan and Brendon who are original cast) has devolved, the characters are less likeable (I myself have always disliked Buffy as a character, and been in a tiny minority. It's possibly now the majority view.)

I was another not so fond of Buffy herself and found her to be not only perhaps the weakest character but also maybe the least likeable scooby.

The acting has suffered too of late, especially compared to the first few seasons (1-3). There are times when I wish they'd axe Tara/Anya/Dawn and Spike and get back to the original Buffy/Xander/Willow/Giles vibe they had going to start with. It seems they no longer make use of Brendon's comic talents which is a real shame. I know characters have to grow to be realistic, but there's so little realism in this show that a little more school-days charm wouldn't serve to hurt the show

Like I've mentioned before, if the show went back to how it was, it would suffer from 'Friends' syndrome, in that it would appear as the characters haven't 'evolved'. People do change, become more serious and become less likeable as they grow up sometimes. Joss isn't stupid.

I deal with it by not watching, just like loads of other folks

The fact that the characters "change, become more serious and become less likeable as they grow up sometimes" might be realistic but I don't think it makes for particularly good television

Hence my arguement that the show should have ended on a high at the end of season 3.

Joss isn't stupid but I wonder if he's not losing viewing figures on the show because of these character changes.

Anyone have the viewing figures on this?

I think you're right though, its like getting the balance between realistic issues in the program (or as realistic as they can be with the whole hellmouth thing going on there) and making it watchable and enjoyable for the now vast audience.

Actually I am really liking season 6 if only to find out where it is all leading to!

I understand where you are coming from. And I do sometimes get misty eyed for the innocence of the early seasons (And I kinda see the same qualities of Season One Buffy in the first season of Smallville) but I also like that it's moved on.

The show might have got more serious, but its still enjoyable for me and thats the main thing. As long as its enjoyable, and written relatively well its still a good show. The comedy is still there there is just less of it. You'll just have to deal with the fact that the characters have to move on. Unrelated, I have ITV digital so I won't be able to see Buffy at my house.

Spare a thought for me whilst you're watching it in awe as this season unfolds.

Since when to the nielsen ratings matter? They never cover everyone so it isn't really accurate. It only gives you a small sample of people watching TV. Plus Buffy's moved to a new network which a lot of people can't even get(akin to channel 5 really). The biggest travesty is, most of you people are complaining about it and I can't even get it any more thanks to Stupid

ITV digital. For Shame! For Shame!

I'm interested, where do you get the ratings from? I know I said the ratings don't matter(which they don't because you can't account for what other people watch) but still, I would be interested, especially as buffy on bbc 2 I know gets viewers in excess of 2 million at times.

I think this was the ep where Buffy became invisible "Gone".
It beat "The Simpsons", "Friends" etc. so it can't be all that unpopular.

But what sort of figures does it get regularly? How is it doing compared to previous episodes/seasons? If for example arbitrarily using TinnionA97's "2million" as it's previous average number of viewers, it's not doing too well is it? BUT if it's been staying around the 1.14 million mark, then I guess it's still holding it's own.

I think the 2m is BBC where you'd expect more viewers than Sky as you don't have the limitations on who can watch it

Mind you, I agree with TinnionA97 that viewing figures are a bit tangential to this conversation - after all, EastEnders regularly tops the terrestrial viewing figures and that has no effect at all on my avoidance of it!
